DRESS CODE

The Grenada Elementary School District takes pride in the appearance of our students. All students are expected to dress and groom themselves neatly in clothes that are suitable for school activities. Students wearing inappropriate clothing may be asked to change their clothing or parents will be contacted and asked to bring their student appropriate clothing. The following guidelines on brief clothing are examples and do not cover all situations.

The following rules are to be followed:

1. Students shall not wear halter tops or strapless shirts. Shirts that are “see- through,” cut low, backless, expose one’s midriff or expose undergarments are not acceptable. Shirts must fit closely under the arms.

2. Shorts, skirts and holes in ‘ripped’ jeans must reach the length of the tip of the pinky finger of each individual student. Length is determined by students standing straight with arms resting next to their sides.

3. Students’ clothes must not offer a safety hazard; shoes or sandals with heel straps must be worn at all times. In addition, appropriate footwear must be worn for physical education.

4. Clothing, jewelry, and other possessions shall be free of messages, pictures, or any other insignias which are vulgar, offensive, obscene, sexually suggestive, or libelous; that denigrate others or represent groups that denigrate others on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability; or that promote alcohol, drug use or violence.

5. Students shall not wear pants or shorts that, when fastened, sag or fit below the waist.

6. Hair shall be clean and neatly groomed.

7. All clothing shall be clean, neat and free of odor.

Coaches and teachers may impose more stringent dress requirements to accommodate the special needs of certain sports and/or classes.

Students who are in violation of the dress code will be sent to the office and given the opportunity to correct the problem. Repeat offenders will face disciplinary action up to and including suspension.

The administration has the final word on appropriate clothing.
